Visa on arrival is not available to boat entry, so you need to contact a nearest Vietnamese embassy to get your visa beforehand. It is strongly recommended that you apply for a visa in an Asian country to save your money. For example, getting a Vietnamese visa in Cambodia saves you at least 50 USD in compared to getting a visa from US or UK.
